Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly asked Chelsea to push for Moises Caicedo as the Argentine views him as a perfect N’Golo Kante replacement.

Rudy Galetti via Give Me Sport reckons Mauricio Pochettino has personally asked Chelsea to sign Moises Caicedo. The Argentine manager views the £70 million-rated midfielder as the perfect replacement for N’Golo Kante but faces tremendous competition from Arsenal.

The media has continually linked Moises Caicedo to multiple Premier League sides since the season drew to a close. In truth, only about a couple of sides are genuinely in the race, with Chelsea speculated as the leader in the hunt.

Brighton had the foresight to reject a few offers from Arsenal and Chelsea in January. The decision was right, considering Caicedo played a massive role in helping the Seagulls qualify for the Europa League. In between, he also signed a new deal that validated his status in the team.

However, there seems like an understanding between the player and Brighton to allow a departure for the right terms. The Seagulls reportedly sought at least £80-85 million. But now, many state the Ecuadorian midfielder would come cheaper, at around £70 million.

Arsenal are likely to make a bid for Caicedo in the coming days. The Gunners had two bids rejected in January, and the 21-year-old pleaded with Brighton to let him leave. Mikel Arteta has not lost foresight of the midfielder and wants him in his squad.

While the Gunners offer Caicedo an upgrade with Champions League football, links with Chelsea refuse to go away. Journalist Rudy Galetti reckons Mauricio Pochettino has personally asked Chelsea to push for a move and bring the midfielder.

The Argentine manager considers the £70 million-rated midfielder as the perfect replacement for N’Golo Kante. The Frenchman is likely moving to Saudi Arabia. Galetti said, “Pochettino specifically asked for the Brighton player to strengthen the midfield, and now, with Kante’s farewell, Moises is becoming an urgency.”

The midfield area is of particular importance to Chelsea. They have already lost out in the race for Manuel Ugarte, with the Uruguayan preferring PSG. There is a feeling the lack of Champions League football might hurt Chelsea’s chances of securing top talents. However, they remain confident about Caicedo.

Chelsea are in a position to offer a bumper contract, but so can Arsenal. The Blues are already stepping up their efforts to bring the midfielder. But they must act fast to secure the Brighton star. The Gunners are reportedly focused on signing Declan Rice and keeping a firm eye on the £70 million-rated midfielder.

Which of the London giants are favourites cannot be clear now. Yet, there is a feeling Arsenal might have the upper hand with Champions League football. But Chelsea could also present their exciting project under Pochettino.
