Real Madrid are targeting Stole Dimitrievski as a replacement for Andriy Lunin in the summer, with the Ukrainian likely to leave.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Stole Dimitrievski is a target for Real Madrid as they seek a second-choice goalkeeper. The Spanish giants are ready to move for the 29-year-old Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper to replace Andriy Lunin, who wants to play regularly elsewhere.

Andriy Lunin continued his development at Real Madrid but wants to play an important role on the pitch. Right now, it is an impossible ask to play regularly in the first team, considering it would take dislodging Thibaut Courtois off his spot.

With that out of the question, Lunin will likely explore an opportunity elsewhere. With a year left on his deal, Real Madrid will readily consider offers from suitors for Lunin, with big interest coming from the Bundesliga.

If he leaves, Real Madrid will need a quality backup to Courtois for next season. They are exploring some options, including Gabriel Slonina of Chelsea, but his young age might cast doubts about the task. For perspective, Lunin made 12 appearances last season in all competitions, including seven in the League.

Whether the 19-year-old has the experience to take on the big stage remains the question. Hence, Real Madrid are already exploring some experienced heads for the role, including 29-year-old La Liga goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.

The North Macedonian had a busy season in goal for Rayo Vallecano, keeping nine clean sheets and helping them avoid relegation from La Liga. He can continue at the club and remain regular between the posts. But the idea of playing for a big club, especially Real Madrid, might turn his head.

He would know he will join Los Blancos as the second choice. But it is an opportunity very few players refuse. Dimitrievski has a year left on his deal with Rayo Vallecano, which makes the deal cheaper for Real Madrid, and they are likely to bring him on a cut-price deal.

The report claimed Dimitrievski was only one of the options Madrid considers for the role. The others include David Soria of Getafe and Fernando Pacheco of Espanyol. However, the 29-year-old has a good track record in Spain and could help the team with his experience.
