Real Madrid may have inched closer to signing Harry Kane from Tottenham as they seek the England captain to replace Karim Benzema.

According to reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Real Madrid are close to signing Harry Kane from Tottenham. Despite contrasting reports regarding the Englisham, links with Los Blancos may have some credibility as Florentino Perez seeks a solid replacement for Karim Benzema.

It has been a busy few days at Real Madrid following mixed news on multiple fronts. At first, there was optimism over Karim Benzema staying put despite the overtures of Saudi Arabia. But the Frenchman did a U-turn to sign for Al-Ittihad on a three-year deal.

Later, the formation of a deal for highly-rated Borussia Dortmund Jude Bellingham arrived. Keeping in line with the idea of the ‘Galacticos’, it is imperative for Florentino Perez to bring in a striker close to the stature of Benzema.

For that, they had initiated a move for Harry Kane from Tottenham. But the Premier League side have so far remained adamant on their stance over a sale. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants to keep the England captain on board, even though he has entered the final year of his contract.

Prices close to £100 million or over have been reportedly quoted in the media as that could be what Tottenham seek in return. Contrasting reports suggested Kane, who scored 32 goals in all competitions this season, could stay to pursue Alan Shearer and become the Premier League’s record goalscorer.

There was also a prolonged interest in Manchester United. Despite their efforts, the Red Devils are less optimistic about signing Kane. No player readily ignores the overtures of a club like Real Madrid, which may be valid for the 32-goal Premier League star.

As per Alfredo Pedulla, Real Madrid are very close to completing a move for Kane. Such high-profile moves, especially those involving Levy, often end up in protracted sagas. But this time, there is hope things will conclude differently.

Real Madrid have also freed up space and wages in their squad following the departures of Benzema and Eden Hazard. Since they have already signed Bellingham, there is room for another top player to come in and fill an important position in the side.

Kane’s goalscoring prowess has made Perez keen to sign the striker on a priority basis. They might shell out a considerable sum in return. Levy could sanction a sale for less money than letting his star man join a direct domestic rival.

Madrid will not pay Levy’s asking price. I think everyone will have to wait to get him free next year, but bear in mind, if Ange does well he might just sign a new contract!
