Real Madrid and Manchester United will reportedly lock horns in the race to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli this summer.
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are in the market for a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Napoli striker, whose price tag is £140 million, is also a target for Manchester United.
Victor Osimhen has been one of the most highly-rated strikers in the world for a long time. But he has taken his game to another level at Napoli after enduring teething problems in 2020. And after an excellent 2021/22 campaign, he inspired the Partenopei to the elusive Scudetto this season.
The 24-year-old stitched a formidable offensive partnership with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. And Osimhen’s tally of 31 goals and five assists in 39 appearances inspired Napoli to the league win. The Nigerian striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs keen on signing him. And Manchester United and Real Madrid are among his prospective suitors.
Manchester United will head into the summer transfer window knowing they need a top-class striker to challenge on all fronts. Anthony Martial is not the solution to Manchester United’s issues, while Wout Weghorst will return to Burnley when his loan stint ends. And Osimhen has emerged as a viable target for the Premier League club.
Recent reports have also claimed that the 24-year-old is a top target for Manchester United amid rumours linking Harry Kane with Real Madrid. But the Red Devils face stiff competition from Los Blancos in the race to sign the Nigerian international.
Karim Benzema is leaving Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. And with the Frenchman playing his last game for Los Blancos, they need to scour the market for a long-term replacement. And Osimhen is an option worth considering for Real Madrid. But Napoli will demand £140 million to part ways with the Serie A top scorer.

Manchester United and Real Madrid can theoretically afford to pay £140 million for a single player. But with both clubs looking to rebuild their squads, such an outlay seems unlikely. So it will be interesting to see if they can convince the Serie A champions to lower their demands.
