Manchester United have opened talks to acquire the services of the 24-year-old Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
According to The Times, Manchester United are keen on having Mason Mount in their ranks. The 24-year-old midfielder’s future at Chelsea has been uncertain for a while now, and he could be on his way out in the summer.
Mount has come through the ranks at Chelsea. The 24-year-old was subject to multiple loan moves to gain first-team experience. And, after an impressive loan spell at Derby County back in 2018/19, Mount was promoted to the Blues’ first team.
He has since gone from strength to strength and established himself as a key part of their first team setup. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the England international has featured in 35 matches and also has 9 goal contributions.
While Mount remains an important part of their team, the 24-year-old’s future has been uncertain for a while. The English international’s contract runs out in a year’s time. The Blues have tried extending it but they have failed to meet the midfielder’s expectations.
With Mount unlikely to pen down a new deal at Stamford Bridge, the Blues might not have any options other than to listen to offers for his services. Manchester United are one of the clubs keen on having the 24-year-old Chelsea playmaker in their ranks.
While they have not made a concrete offer yet, senior figures from Manchester United have started talks with Chelsea over a possible move. The Red Devils have made their desire of signing the England international pretty clear.
They are currently preparing an offer that will be presented to Chelsea after the end of the season. Manchester United are confident that agreeing on personal terms with the player won’t be a problem. But, they will have to first have to convince Chelsea, who are asking £70 million for his services.
Manchester United are keen on having a new midfielder in their ranks as they look to take the next step and challenge for major titles next season. Erik ten Hag believes Mount could be a great addition to their ranks. However, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to pay £70 million for the 24-year-old.
