Joao Felix has been linked with a summer move away from Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona has emerged as a potential destination.

A report from the Spanish publication SPORT claims that Barcelona are not keen on signing Joao Felix. The 23-year-old attacker will not join Chelsea permanently from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Felix has been on loan at Premier League club Chelsea during the second half of the campaign. But he has had an underwhelming spell with the West London club. Despite impressing with his overall performance, he has failed to score goals consistently. So Chelsea have decided not to sign in permanently as a result of that.

But recent reports have linked the Portuguese international with several high-profile clubs. Felix has reportedly been offered to clubs like Newcastle United as well. It will be interesting to see whether the Portuguese international can secure a move eventually.

The 23-year-old has not been able to hit top form since his move to Atletico Madrid, and he will be desperate to get his career back on track. He is unlikely to get regular opportunities at Atletico Madrid next season. So a permanent exit from the capital club could be ideal for him.

The 23-year-old was regarded as a world-class talent during his time at Benfica. But he has not been able to justify the potential yet. Atletico Madrid paid a club-record fee to sign the player, and the transfer has been a disaster for them. They are unlikely to be able to recoup that money for Felix. So it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to let him leave on a cheap.

There is no doubt that Felix can develop into a top-class player. But he needs to join the club where he will get ample opportunities. He also needs to play under a manager with a progressive approach, and Diego Simeone’s defensive system is not a good fit for him.

Staying at Chelsea could have been ideal for him, especially now that Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the London club’s manager. However, the Argentine manager was not keen on making his move permanent.

It will be interesting to see where Felix ends up this summer. He remains a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him, and whoever manages to unlock his potential could have a massive bargain on their hands. But he has no future at either Chelsea or Barcelona.
