Real Madrid will reportedly prioritise signing Harry Kane, a target for Manchester United if Karim Benzema leaves this summer.

According to a report by 90min, Harry Kane has become the priority target for Real Madrid. The Merengues are keeping their options open amid uncertainties surrounding Karim Benzema’s future. But Los Blancos will face stiff competition from Manchester United for the Tottenham Hotspur talisman.

Harry Kane has been a goalscoring extraordinaire for Tottenham Hotspur for nearly a decade. The English international had to bide his time before becoming a regular for the North London club. But he has not looked back since his breakthrough campaign, becoming a talismanic figure for Tottenham.

At the same time, the 29-year-old has seen his stock skyrocket on the international stage. He is the England captain while being the Three Lions’ all-time top scorer. Kane also broke the scoring record for Tottenham this season and racked up 32 goals and five assists in 49 appearances. But Kane’s future is uncertain after Tottenham failed to qualify for any European competition. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid and Manchester United.

At Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti is prioritising a summer move for the English international. And the Merengues have now followed suit, viewing the 29-year-old as the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema. The latest update comes in the wake of suggestions that the Frenchman might leave Real Madrid to move to Saudi Arabia.

But reports on Thursday night have suggested that Benzema will remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer. However, the Merengues are keeping their options open in case the 35-year-old departs. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will face stiff competition from Manchester United for Kane.

Recent reports have also claimed that Kane will only join Manchester United if and when he leaves Tottenham this summer. The Englishman has Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record in his sights. And he will only manage to break it if he remains in England beyond the summer transfer window. But Tottenham will look to block a Manchester United move for the 29-year-old.

A Real Madrid move might not see the light of day anyway if Benzema remains at the Santiago Bernabeu. So Manchester United should be in the lead to secure Kane’s services. But it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils strike an agreement with Tottenham for the player.
