Manchester United are all set to battle it out with Chelsea for the signatures of 22-year-old Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
According to A Bola, Manchester United have entered the race for the signatures of Manuel Ugarte. The 22-year-old has been putting in some impressive performances over the past few seasons. And quite a few clubs keen on having the €60 million-rated midfielder in their ranks.
Ugarte joined Sporting CP back in the summer of 2021. He has gone from strength to strength since joining the Portuguese outfit. The Uruguayan international has been the mainstay for the Portuguese club over the past two seasons.
His performances in the UEFA Champions League have caught the eyes of quite a few elite clubs. They are expected to push for his services in the summer. While his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2026, the 22-year-old is expected to part ways in the summer given the amount of interest in him and the €60 million release clause.
Ugarte’s contract with Sporting has a release clause that could lead to his exit in the upcoming transfer window. Meanwhile, Manchester United and Chelsea are the two clubs keen on having him in their ranks. Both clubs are ready to trigger the €60 million release of the Uruguayan international.

The Blues are looking to add more stability to their midfield. They want to land a defensive midfielder who can cover for N’Golo Kante nd eventually, take over from the French World Cup winner. And, Ugarte is one of the names on their radar.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have entered the race for the 22-year-old. Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the defensive midfielder and feels he could help them take the next step. The Sporting midfielder has all the qualities to fit into ten Hag’s system and could form a deadly partnership with Casemiro in the centre of the park.
With Manchester United back in the Champions League, they need to sign quite a few players to be competitive in both the UCL and the Premier League. The 22-year-old is a primary target for the club and they have the financial capabilities to get it done. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can come out on top against Chelsea.
