Liverpool enter the chase for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, as the Lazio midfielder seems destined to leave the club.

According to Rudy Galetti via Give Me Sport, Liverpool could angle a move for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the summer. Jurgen Klopp may consider the Serbian as an alternative to Mason Mount, but nevertheless, the 28-year-old will likely add a new dimension to the squad.

Liverpool have many requirements ahead of the summer, with Jurgen Klopp eager to reshape his midfield. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner will depart, leaving considerable gaps in the squad. Moreover, their current options have yet to perform to the desired levels, making the manager decide to bring in new stars.

Several names have been mentioned in recent months. As things stand, Liverpool are getting closer to signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in a big-money move. Klopp reportedly decided to bring another midfielder, who could sit at the base.

Recent reports suggested Liverpool are ready to pay Manuel Ugarte’s release clause. That aside, Klopp may angle for another attack-minded star and has been linked with a move for Mason Mount, as he seems destined to leave Chelsea.

There are doubts over Mount’s move to Liverpool, despite being the favourites for months to sign the 24-year-old. He’s steadily leaning toward a move to Manchester United, who are serious about the Chelsea star ahead of the summer window.

Klopp wants a midfielder who could do multiple roles and bring good numbers to the team. A new option in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has come to the fore, with Journalist Rudy Galetti suggesting Liverpool could enter the chase for the £100,000-a-week Arsenal, Newcastle United target.

Galetti said, “Liverpool want to be competitive again in the Premier League and for this reason, one of the main targets of the next summer transfer market is to strengthen the midfield.”

“And yes it’s true, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is among the names in the list. His contract will expire in 2024 and Lazio, to avoid losing him as a free agent next year, will have to sell him in the summer.”

Lazio were open to letting Milinkovic-Savic leave for nearly £40 million in the summer. This is the sum his agent Mateja Kezman reported promised the Serie A club that he would achieve in the market. However, that may not be the case, as many top-level teams will unlikely pay up for a player with a year left on his contract.

There are those feeling Milinkovic-Savic could sign for less, and rightly so. The midfielder will bring tremendous value for the prices mentioned, and Liverpool’s system will prove a solid fit for the Serbian star.

Liverpool will still have to compete with Arsenal and Newcastle United in the race. The Gunners were long linked with the £100,000-a-week target but were not ready to pay exorbitant sums in the past.

Whether the Lazio star remains on Mikel Arteta’s list remains the question. However, Newcastle United may explore the idea of Milinkovic-Savic, as they enter into a new realm by playing in the Champions League next season. Eddie Howe might look at his experience at the top level and consider investing in the £100,000-a-week star.
