Newcastle United line up Ferran Torres swoop

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona this summer, with €35 million likely to get the job done.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Ferran Torres is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies want to replace Allan Saint-Maximin with the Spanish attacker. And an offer worth €35 million might be enough for Barcelona to part ways with the struggling winger.

Ferran Torres shocked watchers of Premier League football when he ended his stint with Manchester City in January 2022. The 23-year-old had been with the Citizens for only 18 months, with Pep Guardiola only starting to groom him. But he was keen on returning to Spain and representing his dream club.

But the Spaniard has struggled to stamp his authority at Spotify Camp Nou as he has been in and out of the starting lineup. Torres has started only 17 of the 51 games played by Barcelona thus far this term. And the player’s situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Newcastle United.

The 2023 summer transfer window will be crucial for Newcastle United, who will likely spend big to continue rising the ranks in England and Europe. And the Magpies want to sign a wide attacker to compete with Allan Saint-Maximin. But with the Frenchman being a target for several clubs, the new signing might even replace him.

Newcastle United have thus shown interest in several wide attackers, including Neymar. And Ferran Torres is also a viable target for the Tyneside outfit. The report has claimed that the Magpies are internally discussing replacing Saint-Maximin with the Barcelona attacker.

The Spaniard already has experience in the Premier League from his stint with Manchester City. So he should not take much time to settle down at St. James’ Park. And Torres will not cost a bomb either, with Barcelona demanding €35 million to part ways with. With Newcastle United being the richest club in the world, shelling out €35 million should not be an issue.

But Torres is reportedly keen on staying put at Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window. That said, if his situation does not improve, a summer departure will serve him well. And the fast-rising Newcastle United can offer him a fruitful career for the foreseeable future.
