Manchester United have reportedly submitted a “more important offer” to Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves than Barcelona.

According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Ruben Neves has an offer on his table from Manchester United. And the Spanish publication has claimed that the Red Devils have tabled a “more important” offer than Barcelona. The Portuguese international is seemingly ready to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window.

Ruben Neves spent his formative years with FC Porto and established himself as one of the best young midfielders in his homeland before surprising everyone by joining Wolverhampton Wanderers, then an EFL Championship club, in July 2017. But the 26-year-old took the Black Country outfit to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Portuguese international has come leaps and bounds in the last six years, with his market value rising to €40 million. And he has made over 250 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers, chipping in with 30 goals and 13 assists. Neves’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona and Manchester United keen on signing him.

Barcelona’s interest in Neves dates back a few years. And they remain eager to secure the player’s services this summer. The continued keenness to land the Portuguese ace is understandable, with Sergio Busquets leaving Barcelona in a few weeks. And that will leave a gaping hole in the midfield unit.

Recent reports have claimed that personal terms will not be an issue. But Xavi Hernandez has other ideas for Sergio Busquets’s successor. And that has created a window of opportunities for the other suitors, including Manchester United. Meanwhile, the report claims that the Red Devils have submitted a “more important” offer than Barcelona.

Manchester United, like Barcelona, will head into the summer transfer window scouring for a midfield reinforcement. And with Christian Eriksen in no physical state to last a long season, signing a top-class midfielder is imperative. Neves has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

But recent reports have suggested that Neves is closing in on joining Barcelona. Meanwhile, a summer departure seems certain, especially after the 26-year-old appeared to bid the Wolverhampton Wanderers fans goodbye after their final home game of the 2022/23 season. And it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can beat the Blaugrana to his signature.

  1. Good luck to Neves he deserves to play in a good team, as for wolves until they get rid of Mendes who is only interested in money they will be lucky to stay in the premier league, don’t think the manager will stay either if he has any sense.
