Real Madrid might pursue 34-year-old Al-Nassr goalkeeper David Ospina if Andriy Lunin leaves in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, David Ospina is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The 34-year-old has been a target for Los Blancos on previous occasions. And they will launch the offensive to sign the Al-Nassr goalkeeper if Andriy Lunin leaves in the summer transfer window.

David Ospina spent nearly a decade and a half in Europe after arriving from his homeland in 2008. And in that time, he represented well-known clubs like OGC Nice, Arsenal, and Napoli. But it is at Napoli, in particular, that the Colombian international found a stable footing in his career.

But Ospina’s stint with Napoli ended last summer as he joined Al-Nassr in July. But while the 34-year-old has been a regular, an elbow injury has hampered his campaign. And he has turned out 14 times while keeping nine clean sheets. But the veteran goalkeeper might soon return to Europe, with Real Madrid interested in signing him.

The Merengues are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has seen his frustrations boil over during his Real Madrid stint. And with Thibaut Courtois being the undisputed first-choice, he has had to suffice with appearances in cup games when the Belgian goalkeeper is available.

Lunin is thus fed up at Real Madrid and wants a summer departure to resurrect his stuttering career. But Lunin’s departure will leave Real Madrid without a reliable backup goalkeeper. So they have compiled a wishlist of shot-stoppers to pursue if the 24-year-old calls it a day at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid’s shortlist features Bart Verbruggen and Gabriel Slonina. But they have also rekindled their interest in David Ospina. Interestingly, the 34-year-old goalkeeper was on Los Blancos’ radar before he decided to end his stint in Europe.

It is unclear how Al-Nassr will respond to an offer when they are building a formidable squad. But the opportunity to play for Real Madrid does not come often, and Ospina’s head might turn. So it will be interesting to see if the Merengues secure the services of the Colombian international this summer.
