Manchester United join Arsenal in Mohamed Simakan pursuit

Manchester United have entered the chase for Mohamed Simakan, with Arsenal also keen on the RB Leipzig defender.

According to Fichajes, Mohamed Simakan has emerged as a target for Manchester United. Erik ten Hag seeks a right-back to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer possibly. Arsenal are also keen on the RB Leipzig utility man, who will command a significant price in the next window.

Mohamed Simakan has impressed onlookers with his performances for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig this season. The 23-year-old utility man can play in multiple positions on the right side of the defence, which may have sought the attention of top clubs.

Arsenal have reportedly registered an interest in the Frenchman as Mikel Arteta seeks a competitor for Ben White and William Saliba’s positions. He might keep Takehiro Tomiyasu for his versatility, but Rob Holding could depart in the summer.

The Gunners are chasing a right back that can invert into Arteta’s style, reminiscent of Oleksandr Xinchenko. Ben White has been a solid presence in the full-back role, but the manager wants another player to compete or cover for the English defender.

While Arsenal may consider a move for Simakan, they have competition from Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag wants to reinforce the backline with at least two positions up for grabs; they are considering a move for Kim Min-jae for the centre-back role while searching for options at right back.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future remains in doubt, with ten Hag likely to move on from the defender. Manchester United could keep hold of Diogo Dalot and even offer him a new deal. But ten Hag would like a competing right-back. Simakan from Leipzig will fit well into the role.

Manchester United are eager to create a team competing for honours. They have tailed off in an otherwise progressive season under the Dutchman. Now onto the next phase, they will likely achieve their priority targets, with Simakan likely to become an important target.

Ultimately, things could come down to two factors, with the Champions League being the most important aspect. As Simakan has signed a new deal, Leipzig would command a significant fee, determining which direction the 23-year-old Bundesliga utility man will head towards.
