Manchester United’s striker search takes a new twist as they have cooled their interest in top target Victor Osimhen.
Manchester United have plenty of concerns about spending £100 million or more on Victor Osimhen. Football Insider reckons the Red Devils have cooled their interest in Napoli’s 28-goal striker, whose price tag is £100 million price tag, as they could move on to other alternatives.
Manchester United fans will want their club to bring in a new No.9 during the summer window. The likes of Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial have utterly failed to convince others of their abilities in the role, leading the club to look out for a new striker.
For months, reports have pointed towards Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen as their potential targets in the summer. Both strikers carry a massive price tag but have contrasting futures concerning longevity. Napoli’s 28-goal striker has excelled this season, helping his side win the Scudetto after 33 years.
Meanwhile, Kane has posted another goal-laden season and remains high on their list. There is a potential chance of Manchester United signing neither, as both have complications concerning a transfer. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could rather see Kane remain at the club for one more season than sell him to a direct Premier League rival.
Moreover, the soon-to-be 30-year-old striker carries a massive price tag that could surpass the £100 million mark. Osimhen, on the other hand, could provide longevity to any team that signs him. But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has already ruled out selling him.
Hence, the growing links to Benfica star Goncalo Ramos have emerged again in the media. However, they have reportedly cooled their interest in Osimhen, with Erik ten Hag seemingly having doubts regarding the striker, including his lack of Premier League experience and injury history.
Osimhen has missed nine games for Napoli this season with muscular problems that Ten Hag worries about. With Manchester United unlikely to pursue a deal any further, that may not end the links to Premier League. Chelsea are keen on the Nigerian star ahead of the window. But their lack of European football might hurt those chances.
As for Manchester United, they might look towards other targets and make a final decision. Many notable names are on their shortlist, including Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt.
