Mauricio Pochettino, who is set to take charge of Chelsea, wants them to sign the 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder Gavi ahead of next season.

According to Sport via Sport Witness, Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign Gavi. The former Tottenham manager is all set to take charge of the Blues ahead of next season. And, he has clear ideas of what he wants to execute in his first transfer window with the club.

The Blues parted ways with Graham Potter a few weeks back. They had invested a lot in signing new players since their takeover and wanted to give Potter time to turn things around. However, he failed to deliver, and Chelsea were forced to part ways with Potter.

They have handed over the reins of the club to former manager Frank Lampard until the end of the season. And, Chelsea are currently on the look for a new manager. Meanwhile, as per reports, Pochettino is likely to be their new boss, and they will make an official announcement in the coming weeks.

The former Tottenham boss has plans to rebuild his squad before moving ahead. He wants Chelsea to reinforce their midfield unit. Despite spending a fortune over the past few windows, the Blues are likely to go big again this time. However, they will first offload a few of their players before bringing in new ones.

Their new manager wants them to go all out for Gavi. Pochettino is a big fan of the Barcelona wonderkid and believes the 18-year-old could do wonders in the Premier League. His playing style is very interesting, and he could be a good acquisition for the present as well as the future.

The Spain international is an integral part of Xavi’s setup at Barcelona. However, his contract situation is a bit tricky. The teenager signed a new deal with Barcelona and extended his stay until 2026. However, La Liga has not accepted the renewal because the Catalan giants have not met the financial fair play conditions.

Gavi has returned to his youth contract that ends in the summer. And, he could be available as a free agent in the upcoming window. However, reports state that Barcelona will look to balance their books as soon as possible in order to extend the 18-year-old’s contract at the club. And, even the player has no intentions of leaving the Catalan giants.
