Arsenal could eye up a summer move for Marc Guehi, with Mikel Arteta seeking defensive reinforcements in the central areas.

According to Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside, Arsenal are monitoring 22-year-old Premier League defender Marc Guehi. Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new centre-back in the summer and could make a move for the Crystal Palace star.

Arsenal have increasingly looked at Premier League experience before signing new players in the recent windows. The January arrivals of Leandro Trossard and Jorginho confirmed their policy.

Mikel Arteta has a few ideas on how he wants to strengthen his squad and improve the overall quality. It involves the pursuits of players like Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo. However, going by how the last few games have panned out for Arsenal, they will also look to sign a new centre-back.

They did bring Jakub Kiwior in January. But he is seen more as a cover for Gabriel Magalhaes. Similarly, Arteta wants someone to cover the right side of the backline. Ideally, he would also like that player to cover the Brazilian if needed, and Marc Guehi seems like the ideal name for this role.

The 22-year-old Premier League defender has been a solid performer for Crystal Palace. He joined Chelsea in the summer of 2021 and has been one of their best defenders. Losing him will come as a blow for the Eagles. But the player may not say no to a bigger opportunity.

Fabrizio Romano claimed that Arsenal were monitoring the 22-year-old Premier League defender. He said, “There’s nothing advanced with Arsenal and Marc Guehi, but they are monitoring him, it’s just normal scouting. No decision has been made and there’s nothing concrete at this stage on Guehi but many top clubs are following him.”

Arsenal are not alone in pursuing Guehi, as Tottenham and Manchester United also have him on their radars. Chelsea were also considering re-signing him before January, and there’s a chance of reigniting their interest. Overall, the 22-year-old will have plenty of suitors if he becomes available.

Arsenal are looking for a new centre-back, primarily as cover for William Saliba. Rob Holding may not play for the club next season. So signing Guehi appeals to Arteta. The Gunners were also linked with Josip Sutalo of Dinamo Zagreb but may prioritise Premier League experience.

Guehi will find the interest from Arsenal compelling, and if they make an offer, the defender might push for a move. He will come straight into the team and compete for one of the starting spots. Arteta requires that from his new players as he seeks quality that takes them to the next level.
