Paris Saint-Germain are all set to battle it with Liverpool for the services of 26-year-old Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella.
According to a report by Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain want to sign Nicolo Barella ahead of next season. The 26-year-old midfielder has been on their radar for a while now, and they want to push for his signatures this summer. PSG are looking for a rebuild, and they identify the Liverpool target as a key transfer target.
Barella was a part of Cagliari during his childhood days. He came through the ranks at the club before making a move to Inter Milan a few years ago. The 26-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining the Nerazzurri.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the Italian international has featured in 43 matches and has been involved in 17 goals. He has found the back of the net on eight occasions and has nine assists to his name.
With Inter still battling to qualify for the Champions League, their situation is a bit tricky. If they fail to qualify for the UCL, they will be forced to offload players in the summer to cope with the financial crisis. Barella is amongst their most valuable possessions, and his departure can solve quite a lot of their headaches.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on having the 26-year-old in their ranks. The Merseyside club have struggled in the ongoing season because of an inconsistent midfield. And, Jurgen Klopp is keen on a midfield overhaul.
However, Liverpool will have to square up against Paris Saint-Germain who are desperate to have Barella in their ranks. PSG have failed to fulfil their target of winning the UCL despite having some of the best players in world football. They are set to undergo are revamp in the summer. The club have prepared a shortlist and will push for the 26-year-old this summer.
PSG want to upgrade their midfield and believe Barella’s arrival could bolster their squad. The Italian international is someone who can feature in multiple roles in the centre of the park. And, his arrival will surely result in a leap in quality.
