Chelsea are all set to hold talks with Inter Milan as they look to sign their 27-year-old shot-stopper Andre Onana.
According to Evening Standard, Chelsea want to sign Andre Onana ahead of next season. The 27-year-old has managed to revive himself in the ongoing season, and a lot of clubs are interested in acquiring his services in the summer.
Onana started off at the Samuel Eto’o Academy and soon joined Barcelona’s famous youth academy, La Masia. He came through the ranks at the club before making a move to Dutch club Ajax.
The 27-year-old did wonders during his time at Ajax. However, his progress hit a major roadblock when he was banned for doping. Onana joined Inter Milan ahead of the ongoing season, and he has managed to revive himself with stellar performances in goal for the Italian club.
He has featured in 33 matches for Inter and has managed to keep a clean sheet on 15 occasions. His performances have caught the eye of quite a few clubs across Europe and they are willing to push for him ahead of next season.
The Cameroon international has been on the radar of Chelsea for a while now. And, they are all set to hold talks with Inter Milan for the 27-year-old in the coming week. Representatives of the Blues will travel to Italy to meet the Serie A giants’ officials as they look to discuss the future of Romelu Lukaku as well as Onana.
While the Blues have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in their ranks, they are not happy with the duo’s lack of consistency. And, want to sort out the goalkeeping position in the summer. Chelsea are willing to offer either of them in exchange for the 27-year-old. But it will be interesting to see if Inter agree to any such as they are in desperate need of funds amidst a financial crisis.
The club might not feature in next season’s Champions League, which might result in a huge financial setback. And, they will have to make it up by selling a few of their stars. Onana had arrived ahead of the ongoing season as a free agent and they could surely do great business by selling him for a decent fee.
