Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Brentford defender Aaron Hickey at the end of the season.

Aaron Hickey has been quite impressive for Brentford this season, and his performances have attracted the attention of Pep Guardiola. A report from Fichajes claims that Manchester City are looking to bring in a quality left-back, with the Scottish prodigy identified as a target.

Hickey is extremely talented with a big future ahead of him, and a move to Manchester City could help him continue his development with regular football at a high level. Meanwhile, he will also get to work with one of the best managers of his generation in Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard could help Hickey improve as a player and fulfil his tremendous potential.

The Scottish youngster will be hoping to play regularly at this stage of his career. So Manchester City will probably have to offer him some first-team assurances in order to get the deal done. Meanwhile, the Premier League champions have shown interest in several left-backs, including Ferland Mendy.

The Premier League giants have been using Nathan Ake as their left-back this season, and they need to bring in a more specialist option soon. The 20-year-old would be a solid long-term investment for them, and he could sort out their left-back position for the foreseeable future.

Brentford will be hoping to hold on to their prized prospect for as long as possible. But they simply do not have to pull or the financial resources to turn down an approach from a club like Manchester City. A concrete proposal from the Premier League giants could easily turn the player’s head, and he could be tempted to join the Champions League club next season.

The 20-year-old joined from Bologna last summer when he was linked with multiple English clubs and he has played in 20 league games for Brentford this season. The Bees are in a position to demand a price like €30 million. So Manchester City will need to pay over the odds for him. The young defender has a contract until 2026 with the Premier League club.

He will probably feel that a move to Manchester City could strengthen his chances of holding down a regular starting spot for the Scotland national team. But it will be interesting to see if the Premier League champions are ready to fork out €30 million to sign him.
