Mason Mount has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks as he prepares for a summer move away from Chelsea.

Mason Mount has a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2024 and he is yet to commit his long-term future to the club. A report from the Athletic claims that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has now held fresh talks with the midfielder regarding his future and it is being viewed as a positive development.

Boehly has reiterated Mount’s importance to the Chelsea project, and he will be hoping to keep the England international at the club beyond this season. Mount has established himself as a key player for the Blues since breaking into the first-team scene under Frank Lampard.

He is undoubtedly one of the most promising young midfielders in the league and he has a big future ahead of him. Losing him to a Premier League rival could be a devastating blow for Chelsea. Meanwhile, his market value stands at around €65 million.

The Blues have already learned the hard way in the past that losing talented young players to rivals could come back to bite them. Players like Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Daniel Sturridge have all left Chelsea in the past and gone on to become key players for their clubs.

The 24-year-old England midfielder has the potential to develop into a top-class player and Chelsea must do everything in their power to hold on to him, especially with clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool keen on signing him.

The Blues are already in danger of losing N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic at the end of the season. The French international will be a free agent in a few months, while the Croatian international is reportedly keen on a move away.

Losing Mount as well would be a devastating blow right now. Chelsea have already spent significant sums of money over the last couple of windows and they will need to comply with the financial fair play regulations now. Needing to bring in replacements for three central midfielders in one window would not be ideal for them. So it is hardly surprising that Todd Boehly is personally contacting the player.

Mount has been linked with a move to Liverpool, and the Reds are believed to be pushing for his signature. Selling the player to a direct rival, especially before he has reached his peak could prove to be another transfer mistake from the Blues. On the other hand, Arsenal want to beef up their midfield unit ahead of competing on four fronts next season.

Mount has thus emerged as a viable target for the Gunners. Meanwhile, Manchester United and Newcastle United will also compete with Arsenal and Liverpool for Mount. But with Boehly stepping up talks with the €65 million-rated star, Chelsea might prevent a summer exit.
