Ollie Watkins has been linked with a summer move away from Aston Villa, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested in him.

Clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Ollie Watkins at the end of the season.  However, a report from TEAMtalk claims that Aston Villa are now looking to tie the 27-year-old down to a new deal.

Watkins has been in outstanding form for Unai Emery, and he has 14 goals in the league this season and 11 goals in 2023 alone. There is no doubt that he could prove to be a quality acquisition for most Premier League teams. But Aston Villa are hoping to keep him at the club for as long as possible.

Apparently, the agreement between the two parties is close, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done soon. Watkins is entering his peak years, and Villa will not want to lose him anytime soon. He could be a key player for Unai Emery in the coming seasons as well.

The West Midlands club have shown a lot of improvement under their new manager this season, and they are pushing for European qualification. Villa will need quality players if they manage to qualify for European football. Keeping Watkins at the club should be their top priority ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old is undoubtedly the only reliable goal scorer at the club. And if Villa can bring in adequate reinforcements in the summer to support the striker, there is no reason why they cannot compete at a high-level next season.

Meanwhile, the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham need to add more depth to their attack, and Watkins emerged as a top target. He would have been a quality acquisition for them. Arsenal need a backup for Gabriel Jesus, and Spurs need an alternative to Harry Kane.

He is well-settled in the Premier League and could have made an immediate impact. However, the player has no reason to push for a move away from Aston Villa and they are determined to tie him down to a new deal. It seems that the striker’s suitors will have to wait to sign him in the near future.
