Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 20-year-old Chelsea defender, Levi Colwill at the end of the season.

According to a report from The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for 20-year-old Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, who has impressed during his laon spell at Brighton & Hove Albion this season.

Colwill has established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League, and he could prove to be a sensational long-term acquisition for the North London club. It is no secret that Tottenham will have to add more quality at the back, and Colwill would be a long-term investment for them.

The 20-year-old could be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence. Spurs have looked vulnerable at the back this season. So signing a quality central defender should be a top priority for them.

Players like Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier have been quite underwhelming, and it remains to be seen whether the North London giants can plug a major weakness in their squad this summer. Colwill will be hoping to play regular first-team football at this stage of his career. But it remains to be seen whether Chelsea are prepared to offer him that opportunity.

The 20-year-old defender could look to move on in search of regular game time, if Chelsea fail to provide him with the necessary assurances. Meanwhile, Chelsea need to bring in defensive reinforcements at the end of the season as well.

Thiago Silva is in his twilight years, while summer signing Kalidou Koulibaly has been largely underwhelming. Cesar Azpilicueta is also expected to leave the club at the end of the season. Bringing in another central defender should be on their agenda, and Colwill returning from his loan spell would be ideal for them.

It seems highly unlikely that Chelsea will sanction the departure of a highly-rated young defender like Colwill especially to a direct rival. Chelsea will be hoping to integrate him into their first team and help him develop into a top-class player for the club. The 20-year-old is a massive talent with immense potential, and he could sort out the Chelsea backline for the foreseeable future alongside Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.
