Burnley are keen to re-sign Ian Maatsen next season as they plan for life again in the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, Burnley are keen to re-sign Ian Maatsen in the summer. The Clarets are open to another loan deal or bringing the wide man permanently after an impressive season under Vincent Kompany.

It’s common for teams to return to the Premier League immediately after a season in the Championship. Burnley suffered relegation last season and made the right choices by appointing the right manager to return to the top flight.

Kompany has led this much-changed side to the top of the Championship and already guaranteed themselves a place in the Premier League next season. Not only has the Belgian got the right players via transfers, but he has also changed their playing style.

From a rather pragmatic style under Sean Dyche, Burnley have transformed into one of the lethal attacking units in the division. Kompany hopes to continue his project, although he is already linked to big managerial jobs like the Tottenham position.

In any case, Burnley as a club will look to tie up deals for some of their existing stars, including Ian Maatsen. The 21-year-old Chelsea wide man, who continues to spend the season with the Clarets, has had an impressive campaign under Kompany.

As his four goals and six assists suggest, he has been rock solid at the back and a handy presence in the final third. By obligation, Maatsen will return to Chelsea in the close season while he ponders over his next move, as he will enter the final year of his contract.

Burnley are keen to re-sign him and let him keep his spot in the squad. With his contractual situation, the Clarets could sense an opportunity with Chelsea to sign Maatsen for next season only or even permanently. Given Chelsea’s current situation, they might consider cashing in if they can receive a reasonable price.

Chelsea already have formidable options in the left winger/wing-back roles. Ben Chilwell is close to signing a new contract and also remains their first choice for the position. There’s also the presence of Marc Cucurella, who, despite a difficult season, hopes to find his ground in the team next season.

As for Maatsen, he has spent the last three seasons away from the club and could make it out of the club altogether next summer. The 21-year-old played 19 minutes in the first team for the Blues, which came against Grimsby in the League Cup in 2019.
