Newcastle United have added Carlos Augusto to their list of left-back targets, with the Monza star impressive in his performances.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Newcastle United are interested in Carlos Augusto. The Monza defender has impressed during this season, and a few clubs are keeping tabs. The Magpies remain in the market for a notable left-back who could give them a different option from the position.

Eddie Howe made an interesting signing in January 2022 and got Dan Burn from Brighton. At first, going by the defender’s usual positioning with the Seagulls and his physical presence, the centre-back role seemed perfect after the Magpies missed out on Sven Botman in that window.

However, since they signed the Dutchman the following summer, many would have thought Dan Burn would remain one of their central options. On the other hand, Newcastle signed Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa and made his signing permanent in the next window.

Howe has surprisingly converted Dan Burn into a top-notch left-back since the start of the season. The former Brighton man has put in some terrific displays and helped the Magpies climb into Champions League positions. Despite his new role and the prospect of signing a new deal, the manager wants another option at left-back.

They are notably chasing Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney in the summer. But they could find it hard to sign the Scotsman from a potential rival. Hence, Howe is keeping his options about the position open, with few others mentioned as targets.

Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is a target, while there have been ambitious links with Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich. Monza’s Carlos Augusto has made the list of potential new left-backs for Newcastle, with the 24-year-old Brazilian defender impressing this season in Serie A.

Augusto can play in several positions on the left side of the pitch. He can operate as a winger or a left-sided midfielder. For him, the full-back position seems like his strongest suit, and he might want to continue his career being that.

Moreover, the 24-year-old Brazilian defender also contributes regularly in the final third. Augusto has five goals, and as many assists in 27 Serie A games this season. Newcastle United, keen on developing their attack further, will find value in signing the Monza star.

Augusto’s contract expires in 2024, meaning Newcastle United could sign him for a decent fee. As for the 24-year-old Brazilian defender, he might also open his doors for the move. Much will depend on Monza’s intention to cash in or keep him on board for one more year.
