Newcastle United prioritising Kieran Tierney move

Newcastle United are desperate to sign the 25-year-old Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney ahead of next season.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United want to sign Kieran Tierney in the summer. The 25-year-old is uncertain about his future with Arsenal and might make a move elsewhere. The Magpies have been interested in his services for a while now and might push for him.

Newcastle have done a great job in the ongoing season. They are fighting for a spot in the UEFA Champions League at this point in time. However, Eddie Howe will still look for further reinforcement as they look to push for major titles in the next season.

The Newcastle manager has provided a two-player shortlist to the sporting director Dan Ashworth. Howe is keen to have the two at the club and one of them is the Arsenal full-back, Kieran Tierney.

The 25-year-old Scottish defender has been a part of the Gunners since the summer of 2019. He has been a key part of the London club for quite a few years now. But, he has fallen down the pecking order of late because of injuries and the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko ahead of the ongoing season.

What does the future hold for Kieran Tierney?

Tierney has made a total of 114 appearances for the Gunners and has 18 goal contributions. The Scotland international was a key part of Mikel Arteta’s team but with injuries troubling him, the Spanish manager was forced to bring in Zinchenko.

The former City defender has been impressive at the left-back position and has been preferred ahead of Tierney. While the 25-year-old’s contract at the club ends in the summer of 2026, he might be on his way given that his game time has taken a major hit of late. And, he might not be a regular any time soon.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are in need of a new left-back. Eddie Howe has identified the full-back position as something that they want to strengthen ahead of next season. And, he is desperate to sign the Gunners’ defender.

The manager has made it clear to the board that he wants the £30 million left-back in his ranks. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the Magpies manage to price him away from the league leaders.
