N’Golo Kante has been linked with a summer move away from Chelsea, and Arsenal attempted to sign him in January.
N’Golo Kante will be a free agent in the summer, and his contract is yet to be renewed. A report from Le Parisien, as relayed by Sport Witness, has now shared an interview with the player’s entourage. And they have revealed that the Chelsea midfielder wants to stay in London beyond this season in the wake of an enquiry by Arsenal.
Apparently, there is a growing possibility that Kante will renew his contract with Chelsea and continue in London before leaving for the Middle East in the next few years. The World Cup winner has been a key player for Chelsea since joining them from Leicester City.
So it would be a major boost for the fans and the dressing room if he decided to stay at the club and signed a new deal with them. Chelsea are looking to build a formidable squad capable of challenging for the league title next season.
So they will need players like Kante in the first-team squad. The 32-year-old is one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, and he has won multiple trophies during his time in England and the World Cup with his country in 2018.
His entourage have now revealed that Premier League rivals Arsenal made an enquiry for the French international midfielder before they signed Jorginho from Chelsea during the January transfer window.
“N’Golo would like to continue his career in London, where he has his habits. He liked working with Antonio Conte, but he has been sacked by Tottenham. Arsenal also made an enquiry… I think he will extend his deal at Chelsea before going to the Middle-East in two or three years.”
It is no surprise that Arsenal made an enquiry for the defensive midfielder. Mikel Arteta needs to add more depth to the position, and he will have to bring in someone who can alternate with Thomas Partey at the base of the midfield.
Meanwhile, Chelsea were never going to sell a key player like Kante to a direct rival, and they will need to sort out his contract situation soon. The 32-year-old will be able to move on as a free agent in the summer. He has been linked with a number of European heavyweights in recent months, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
