Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay £40 million for the services of Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

According to a report by Football Insider, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Illan Meslier from Leeds United. While all three clubs are keen on having the 23-year-old shot-stopper in their ranks, they will have to pay £40 million to sign him.

Leeds are currently fighting for survival in the English top flight. If they fail to avoid relegation, quite a few of their star players could leave in the summer. And, Meslier is one of the names on the list. The 23-year-old will look for a move away from the club if they get demoted to the Championship.

However, Leeds have no pressure of selling their shot-stopper having signed a five-year contract extension with him in 2021. While they will not want to keep the shot-stopper at the club against his will, Leeds is expected to stick with their £40 million asking price.

Chelsea are not happy with their goalkeeping situation. While they do have two high-quality shot-stoppers in Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy neither have been consistent enough. As a result, they are interested in acquiring the services of Meslier.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper. Hugo Lloris is in the twilight of his career, and Spurs are keen on signing his replacement in the summer. The former French international has been at the club for over a decade but has been on the decline of late and as a result, they want the goalkeeping situation sorted soon.

Chelsea and Tottenham are not the only clubs keen on having the 23-year-old in their ranks. Manchester United also have their eyes on Frenchman. The Red Devils are currently negotiating a new contract with their undisputed number one David de Gea.

They want to lower his wages but the player is not keen on doing so. Even if he ends up signing a new long-term contract at the club, Erik ten Hag still wants to add a new shot-stopper to his ranks. The Dutch manager is keen on having more competition for the goalkeeping slot and has identified Meslier as a great option for the present as well as the future.

With three of the biggest clubs in England ready to battle it out for the 23-year-old’s services, it will be interesting to see where he ends up playing his football next season.
