Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Harvey Barnes and could take advantage if Leicester City goes down at the season’s end.

Leicester City could lose many prominent stars if they suffer relegation from the Premier League. According to 90 Min, Newcastle United are keen on Harvey Barnes, one of the top-performing Foxes star, but it will prove difficult to get the playmaker.

Harvey Barnes has proved his worth in a Leicester City shirt for years, putting in some consistent performances. In contrast, his team isn’t performing well and remains in danger of going down at the end of the season. If that happens, many of their players could leave on the cheap.

Considering the status Barnes has built with this team, Leicester will certainly hope for a sizeable fee for the 25-year-old playmaker. Even Barnes could push for a move if they drop out, as the player wants to remain in the Premier League.

A host of clubs were previously interested, and his performance yielded 10 goals this campaign; some more might come in. Newcastle are now keen on the 25-year-old playmaker, with Eddie Howe needing a few attacking options starting next season.

Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin have performed well with Calum Wilson and Alexander Isak. With Newcastle angling for a Champions League finish, they will have European football next season.

For the same, they will certainly need a deeper squad and have already started to look out for players in other positions. The attacking department lacks the required depth for a European competition team, so Howe will likely address the issue.

While Barnes attracts the manager, Newcastle keeps tabs on several other options. The Magpies boss will weigh in on Premier League or English experience to choose his next set of attackers. A few names are also mentioned in that regard.

Watford’s Joao Pedro was recently linked, and he could sign out of the London side this summer. While the Brazilian remains a versatile option, Barnes may seem limited with his positions on the pitch. He has taken on the left wing for most of his Leicester career.

Wilfried Zaha is also on their radar due to his immense experience and formidable ability in the Premier League. Yet, someone like Barnes represents fresh ideas for Howe and brings longevity to a particular role.

The Magpies will certainly hope for a Leicester relegation to bring the price down. Alternatively, they might pay what’s necessary to prise the star away. Going by how the Foxes have regressed over the years, a move away to a club will suit the 25-year-old playmaker.
