Newcastle United are interested in signing Joao Pedro in the summer as the 21-year-old Championship forward could finally depart Watford.

According to Fichajes, Joao Pedro is a target for Newcastle United in the summer. Eddie Howe continues to search for a versatile forward to add to his attacking setup. The 21-year-old Championship forward could leave Watford in the next window as they are unlikely to make it back to the top division.

Watford’s efforts to make a swift return to the Premier League may have gone in vain. The London club remain in midtable and may not have the chance to make it to the playoff places. As a result, they could lose some of the stars they kept in the hope to gain promotion.

Of those, Joao Pedro’s name stands out, with the Brazilian forward attracting plenty of interest from many leagues. Spanish sides are keen alongside some Italian teams. However, he could remain in England with Newcastle United eager to sign the 21-year-old Championship forward.

Eddie Howe seeks quality depth in his squad, particularly in the attacking areas. Looking at Pedro’s style and versatility, he could slot into several front-three positions. He naturally plays in the centre-forward role, but the Magpies seem well-stocked in that area.

Pedro does provide them with fresh ideas in the No.9 role, but Howe is unlikely to move away from Callum Wilson or Alexander Isak. He could look to transform the 21-year-old Championship forward into a wide attacker and make him a standout performer in that role.

Newcastle are linked with other names like Sporting CP’s Francisco Trincao, with the Portuguese attacker’s name springing up surprisingly in the media. Howe does not have enough coverage on both wings, with Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron the undisputed starters.

In Almiron’s recent absences, Jacob Murphy has played on the right wing, while Saint-Maximin also had his doubters this season. There are also links to Marcus Thuram, who will become a free agent during the summer. However, Howe could particularly look at English experience, and sign Pedro.

Watford would demand a significant sum for the Brazilian, who will have around five years left on his deal signed in 2020. Newcastle United could negotiate a reasonable price, that would see the Hornets make a decent profit on their initial investment.
