Newcastle United are reportedly linked with a surprise move for Francisco Trincao as Eddie Howe seeks attacking reinforcements in the summer.

According to Torcedores, Newcastle United ponders making a move for Francisco Trincao in the summer. The Portuguese winger has had a good season with Sporting CP on loan from Barcelona. If the Magpies make a sizeable offer, the 23-year-old winger could move again.

Newcastle United are experiencing a season nobody expected them to have at the start of the campaign. Eddie Howe’s side secured a smashing victory over Manchester United on Sunday to move into the third spot. Now have become favourites to finish in the top four.

Playing in the Champions League has its benefits for any club. Newcastle United have proved they are smart with their transfer dealings. They could make more shrewd signings if they make it to Europe’s top-tier competition. One of the key needs for Howe would revolve around bringing in attacking reinforcements.

While they remain linked with a new striker despite having Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson in their ranks, Howe would focus on signing a new right winger. They do not have many players to play on that side, and the manager recently deployed Jacob Murphy there in the absence of Miguel Almiron.

While Murphy has done well, they need a natural player for next season. With reports suggesting Almiron would extend his contract at the club, Howe must bring in a cover for the Paraguayan. They have been reportedly linked with a few players, including free agent Marcus Thuram, but the manager might look at other options.

Solly March was also an option, but Newcastle United know the difficulty of signing the Brighton star. As for Thuram, they face intense competition from some of their rivals, including Chelsea. Now, they are reportedly linked with a surprise move for Francisco Trincao.

Trincao continues to have a good season with Sporting CP. He still belongs to Barcelona and has spent the last two seasons on loan. After a terrible season with Wolves in 2021-22, the 23-year-old Barcelona winger joined the Portuguese side with a €7 million option to buy.

If Sporting exercise their option, Barcelona can re-sign him for €20-25 million while holding 50% of Trincao’s rights. The latter will earn them a sizeable profit if the Portuguese side decides to sell Trincao if they receive a big offer.

Newcastle United will ponder over those details before making an offer. If Sporting senses they could make a sizeable profit from Trincao in the summer, they will surely exercise their buy option of €7 million. For now, Trincao’s performances suggest he could sign with Sporting permanently.

Trincao’s talents make him the ideal cover for Almiron. He may consider a return to the Premier League. Still, he may need guarantees of regular game time. That may not happen with the Magpies, considering the Paraguayan has nailed down the right-wing position.
