Newcastle United have reportedly been linked with a summer move for 24-year-old Lens defender Kevin Danso.

According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, Newcastle United are looking to sign 24-year-old versatile defender Kevin Danso at the end of the season.

Danso has been a key player for Lens this season, and his ability to slot into multiple defensive positions could turn him into an asset for Newcastle United. The Magpies have done well defensively this season. But they are looking to add more quality and depth at the back. As a result, they have shown interest in players like Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Newcastle United are well placed to secure UEFA Champions League qualification, and they will certainly need a better-quality squad in order to compete in Europe. Danso has proven his quality in France, and the opportunity to move to the Premier League will be tempting.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle United can agree on a fee for the 24-year-old defender in the coming weeks. Danso can operate anywhere across a  back four, and his arrival will allow Eddie Howe to rotate his squad more often.

The Newcastle United manager has been overly dependent on Sven Botman, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn as his most reliable defenders this season. But he cannot afford to rely on three players to guide his side through a complete season, especially when there is Champions League football potentially involved.

Newcastle certainly have the financial resources to convince the Ligue 1 club to sell the 24-year-old Austrian defender. And the player could have his head turned by the interest from the Premier League side as well.

The move to Newcastle would be a major step up in the player’s career, and he will be looking to pursue a new challenge if the Magpies come forward with a concrete proposal. Danso has the ability to succeed in the Premier League, and a manager like Eddie Howe could help him improve further and fulfil his potential.

The highly-talented Jdefender has a contract with the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2026, and they are not under any pressure to cash in on him just yet. It will be interesting to see if they decide to demand a premium fee for the 24-year-old at the end of the season.
