Valencia will have to brace for offers in the summer as Premier League clubs set sights on their rising goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham have met with Giorgi Mamardashvili’s agents ahead of a possible summer move. According to Spanish outlet Cope, Valencia could entertain offers for the Georgian if they suffer relegation, as they could make a handsome profit off the goalkeeper.
Giorgi Mamardashvili was a name of unknown quantity before he grabbed his chance with both arms. The 22-year-old La Liga ace has pounced on the chance to become a mainstay in this Valencia side, making 27 appearances in the league this term.
The injury to their first-choice keepers paved the way for Mamardashvili to stake a claim at the No.1 spot. He has conceded 32 goals this term and remains one of the best keepers in the division. With Valencia facing the potential threat of relegation, they might have to sell again to balance their books.
They smartly acquired Mamardashvili for €850,000 and inserted a €100 million termination clause in his contract, valid until 2027. They will surely not get anything close to that amount, but Valencia could make a considerable profit if they happen to sell the 22-year-old goalkeeper.
Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on the keeper and reportedly watched him in action many times this season. Spurs are desperate to replace Hugo Lloris from next season and bring in a new stopper for the longer term. Options like Illan Meslier and David Raya have been discussing with the Georgian the latest on their list.
Spurs have competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea. The Red Devils are on the verge of extending David De Gea’s deal at the club but also looking at other options, including Meslier from Leeds United.
The idea would come around replacing De Gea steadily rather than abruptly and bring in someone to provide competition. Manchester United do not have a viable second-choice keeper to push the Spaniard, something Erik ten Hag wants to change.
The report suggests Manchester United have already met with agents to understand a move for Mamardashvili. The 22-year-old could improve the position drastically as he offers more on the lines of modern goalkeepers.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are also mentioned as a suitor. Irrespective of who comes in as their new manager, the Blues want to offload one or both of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in the summer. The latter’s departure seems imminent, but the Spaniard could stay put and fight for his place.
