Arsenal could swoop in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin if Everton suffer relegation and he becomes available on the cheap.

Football Insider reckons Arsenal could move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin if an opportunity comes. The 26-year-old Premier League striker might be available on a cut-price deal if Everton ultimately suffer relegation at the end of the season.

Everton are in serious trouble with their league position. They are among several teams in and out of the relegation zone. They will remain in the bottom three before they face Tottenham on Monday night. The Toffees dropping out of the Premier League would have serious financial ramifications.

Everton are, as it is, treading on thin ice with the Premier League financial fair play. A visible restriction on their spending prevented Everton from making required quality additions in the last two windows.

However, with a potential relegation from Premier League football, Everton may have to conduct a fire sale of their players to drastically reduce their wage bill. One of the players who could certainly depart in that scenario is Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

After two goal-laden seasons in 2019/20 & 2020/21, Calvert-Lewin has suffered injury issues. He has been restricted to minimal time on the pitch over the last two campaigns and struggles with fitness. His goalscoring numbers have drastically dropped, resulting in many clubs cooling their interest.

Newcastle United reportedly maintain interest. But Arsenal could also rekindle theirs if the conditions are right. That said, Everton will not sell their forward on the cheap if they remain in the Premier League. But the Gunners could pounce in case of relegation.

Mikel Arteta has previously admired the qualities of the 26-year-old Premier League striker. He has sought a forward with a profile similar to Calvert-Lewin. While the current attacking setup seems fine, they lack a tall, physical forward with a box presence.

Links with Dusan Vlahovic persists in the media and now Calvert-Lewin. Given a chance, the 26-year-old Premier League striker will readily accept an offer from Arsenal. But Arteta will remain cautious over pursuing the injury-plagued striker.

For many reasons, Arsenal are unlikely to pay over the odds considering Everton could demand a significant fee. However, if Calvert-Lewin becomes available on the cheap owing to Everton’s relegation, Arteta might ponder making a move.
