Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan are keen on signing Barcelona veteran Jordi Alba, but they cannot afford his wages.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Jordi Alba is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants want to sign a left-back in the summer transfer window. But they cannot afford to pay the wages the Barcelona veteran currently pockets.

Jordi Alba has scripted a legendary career since rejoining Barcelona from Valencia over a decade ago. The Spanish international rose to prominence during his stint with Los Che while becoming a regular for his national side. But his stock skyrocketed for much of his spell with Barcelona, where he also spent his formative years.

The 34-year-old has won every trophy at the club level with Barcelona, including five La Liga titles. But Alba’s stature has reduced this season, with Alejandro Balde and Marcos Alonso ahead of him in the pecking order. And the veteran has started less than half of Barcelona’s games this season. Meanwhile, the player is a target for Inter Milan heading into the summer transfer window.

Inter Milan will likely enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. That is because recent reports have linked Robin Gosens with a summer departure from San Siro. And while the German international remains committed to Inter, the Serie A giants might part ways with him.

Alba has thus emerged as a viable target for Inter Milan heading into the summer transfer window. And despite his advancing years, the Barcelona veteran has the quality to thrive in Serie A next season. But signing the 34-year-old will be an uphill task for the Nerazzurri, as they cannot afford his wages.

So the Serie A giants might have to depend on a part-exchange deal to offset some of the wage costs. But recent reports have suggested that Barcelona might terminate Alba’s contract at the end of the season. That will also likely bring Inter into the picture over a possible Bosman move.

It will be interesting to see if a summer deal will see the light of day for Alba. For now, the Barcelona veteran has emerged on Inter Milan’s radar, with the Serie A giants keen on adding him to their squad.
