Barcelona might offer a part-exchange deal to sign 30-year-old Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic from Serie A club Inter Milan.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Marcelo Brozovic might be up for grabs for a part-exchange deal in the summer transfer window. Barcelona will look to negotiate such an arrangement with Serie A giants Inter Milan. And the Catalan giants are ready to offer several players to land the 30-year-old midfielder.
Barcelona and Inter Milan are in trouble on the financial front. Neither club can afford to spend big sums to land top targets in the summer transfer window. And with a few players from each team likely leaving on the cheap, the situation will exacerbate.
Inter Milan will lose Milan Skriniar as a free agent in the summer transfer window. On the other hand, Barcelona might have to bear losses to sell underperforming players. One such star might be Jordi Alba, who might leave for nothing at the end of the season.
Interestingly, Alba is a target for Inter Milan. But the Serie A giants do not have the financial footing to afford the Barcelona veteran. So it might not be surprising to see Barcelona and Inter negotiating an exchange deal involving Alba and Marcelo Brozovic.
Brozovic has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Inter Milan nearly a decade ago. The Croat has also risen in stature on the international stage, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for his national side. Meanwhile, he has made over 300 appearances for the Nerazzurri, chipping in with 30 goals and 37 assists.
The 30-year-old’s rise has captured the attention of several top clubs, including Barcelona. But Brozovic, despite his advancing years, is not an affordable target for Barcelona. Eric Garcia and Sergino Dest might thus be up for grabs for Inter as part of an exchange deal, apart from Alba.
For now, a part-exchange deal is a possibility, with Barcelona reportedly also considering a direct swap. And it will be interesting to see which players come to the table when negotiations between the two clubs begin. But Brozovic might be staring at a future as a Barcelona player.
