According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Jose Gaya is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions want to bolster both their full-back positions in the summer transfer window. And the 27-year-old Valencia captain has emerged as an option for the left-back slot.
Jose Gaya has established himself as one of the bests full-backs in La Liga during his professional career. A one-club man, the Spanish international has been with Valencia since his formative years. And he has risen in stature considerably, becoming Los Che’s captain following Dani Parejo’s departure.
The 27-year-old is nearing a decade with the Valencia first team and has made over 300 appearances. And he has chipped in with nine goals and 38 assists for Los Che. Meanwhile, Gaya’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.
The report claims Real Madrid will delve into the market to bolster both full-back positions. And signing a left-back is imperative amid Ferland Mendy’s inconsistencies. The French defender has been the first-choice left-back for Real Madrid since his arrival in July 2019. But his performance levels have waned in the last few years.
Fitness issues have also plagued Mendy, and he is no longer a dependable performer for Real Madrid. In addition, David Alaba, the alternative to Mendy in the Real Madrid squad, has also sustained a few injuries recently. So it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a left-back in the summer transfer window.
A few left-backs, including Ben Chilwell, have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. And Jose Gaya is also a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. The 27-year-old will further become an appealing prospect if Valencia cannot escape from the relegation zone by May.
