Manchester City are ready to pip Real Madrid in the chase for Gabri Veiga, with Pep Guardiola’s side readying a mega offer for the midfielder.

According to Marca via Sport Witness, Manchester City could make a huge offer to sign Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga. They face intense competition domestically and from Spain, with Real Madrid keen on the €40 million-rated midfielder.

Gabri Veiga continues to attract the attention of some of the biggest clubs in football. His impressive season for Celta Vigo has put him on the market, with some of the top clubs already chasing his signature in the coming window.

Arsenal were linked early on, and reports suggested Veiga could prefer the Gunners over any other English team. Manchester United and Newcastle United were the others, with all those Premier League sides open to paying his €40 million release clause. Mikel Arteta did something similar last summer by agreeing on a deal for Fabio Vieira.

However, so far, those were the only Premier League sides keen. But now, Manchester City have entered the chase. Pep Guardiola remains a big admirer of Veiga’s talents and wants him to play at the Etihad. The Premier League champions are willing to commit a large sum financially, hoping to thwart the interest of Real Madrid in the player.

Real Madrid had reportedly asked Pini Zahavi to broker a deal for Veiga. Reports from Spain suggest they are unwilling to pay Celta’s request for the €40 million release clause and could look to negotiate the price down. They would like to sound out the idea to Veiga to play at the Bernabeu. But Manchester City’s financial power could outmuscle them.

Manchester City are willing to pay the €40 million release clause, plus reportedly ready to offer Veiga a huge contract. The story insists Guardiola’s side could table a five-year contract worth €60 million, meaning they are willing to commit €100 million towards the player.

Those numbers are mouthwatering for the €40 million-rated midfielder, which could tempt him to move to the Etihad. Arsenal may not offer him so much money, but they could yet try their hand at signing Veiga. Hence, Manchester City could find themselves at the front of the queue chasing the Celta star.

Whether Manchester City can convince the player remains the question. But their entry in the race certainly changes the market dynamics. Real Madrid will continue pushing, but the midfielder may end up in the Premier League.
