Tottenham are unlikely to make a move for Romelu Lukaku this summer although Chelsea are ready to offload him at a knock-down price.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are not in the running for Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea are open to selling the 29-year-old at a knock-down price, but there’s a shortage of interest in the out-of-favour striker.

Romelu Lukaku was supposed to transform the Chelsea team, fresh from winning the Champions League. The Belgian came with big expectations after the Blues decided to pay Inter Milan a mammoth £97 million fee two years ago.

Things have gone completely downhill for the 29-year-old striker since returning to Stamford Bridge. Despite a bright start to life, he failed to convince Thomas Tuchel and made things worse by doing needless media interviews, which attracted plenty of criticism.

He has since returned to Inter Milan on loan. But persistent injuries and a loss of form have resulted in an underwhelming season. Due to those troubles, no big side is interested in Lukaku ahead of the summer, who may have to take a big call over his future. Moreover, Inter are unlikely to sign him permanently in the summer.

Chelsea are willing to sell him cheaply, which would see them take a massive hit on their overall investment. Moreover, his huge wage would keep top teams from pursuing the 29-year-old. For now, a move to Saudi Arabia might materialise as they can pay his current wages.

There were mentions of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. However, with Real Madrid angling for a different striker and Tuchel now with the Bavarians, a return to Chelsea seems like the only possibility for Lukaku in the summer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham were reportedly keen on the striker as the north Londoners looked at more firepower to their front line. There are doubts over the futures of Antonio Conte and star striker Harry Kane, as Spurs could view Lukaku as a replacement for the England captain.

The report insists Tottenham may no longer pursue Lukaku in the summer as they could look at other options. For one, the 29-year-old’s wage could prove problematic, but overall they feel he does not fit the requirement. The Belgian may have to evaluate his options as they are drying up.

He may not have a future at Chelsea as the team have moved on from the type of striker of Lukaku’s profile. There will come a time when the media will start asking questions regarding the 29-year-old, as his future now seems out of bounds.
