Brentford shot-stopper David Raya is open to a move to Manchester United amid interest from rivals Chelsea.
According to a report by Dean Jones via GiveMeSport, Manchester United are interested in the services of David Raya. The 27-year-old Brentford shot-stopper has been in sensational form of late. And a lot of big clubs have their eyes on him.
Raya came through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers before joining Brentford in the summer of 2019. He has gone from strength to strength since joining the Bees. The Spain international has featured in a total of 150 matches for the English club and has 51 clean sheets in those fixtures.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper has nine clean sheets in 27 Premier League outings in the ongoing season. He has played a big part in Brentford being 8th in the league with 42 points to their name. The Bees are very much in the race for a top-six finish.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are one of the club that are keen on having his services. While they do have two high-quality shot-stoppers in Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, they are still looking for a new one. The Blues are not happy with the inconsistency of their keepers. And, they want to land Raya at the club.
Before they push for the 27-year-old, Chelsea will look to offload either of their star keepers. Mendy has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and he might be the one who could make way. However, it won’t be easy for Chelsea to sign Raya as Manchester United are also keen on having him.
The Red Devils are currently negotiating a contract renewal with David de Gea. They are looking to lower his £375,000-a-week wages but De Gea is yet to put pen to paper. The Manchester United shot-stopper is expected to let the takeover talks play out before signing a new deal. However, the common belief is that he will eventually extend his stay at Old Trafford.
While their new manager Erik ten Hag is keen on having De Gea in the ranks, he still wants to sign Raya. Ten Hag is keen on signing someone who can challenge De Gea for a starting spot and eventually take over as their number one. And Raya is open to joining Manchester United.
The Dutch boss has identified Raya as a great option and will push for him in the summer. While the 27-year-old is open to the idea of joining the Red Devils, it will be interesting to see if he ends up at Old Trafford given the amount of interest in his services.
