Florian Wirtz has overcome a long-term injury to re-establish himself as a pivotal figure for Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga giants have a new manager at the helm, but the teenage sensation remains a top player. And Xabi Alonso has utilised the German international regularly since his return.

The 19-year-old has chipped in with two goals and six assists in 19 appearances across all competitions. And Wirtz’s ability to bounce back from the adversity of the injury would have impressed his suitors. Meanwhile, several high-profile clubs are keen on signing him, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will lay down a succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos this year. The two veteran midfielders are approaching the end of their glittering careers.
