Manchester United will step up the efforts to tie Marcus Rashford to a new contract amid interest from Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, securing the future of Marcus Rashford is a priority for Manchester United. And the Red Devils will soon ramp up their efforts to tie the Englishman to a new contract. The player is a target for Real Madrid and several other European bigwigs.

Marcus Rashford has established himself as one of the best players in the world since the 2022/23 season resumed after the World Cup. It has been a swift turnaround in fortunes for the 25-year-old, who has become Manchester United’s talisman. At the same time, his market value continues to soar.

The English international has an excellent tally of 27 goals and nine assists in 44 appearances thus far this term. But Manchester United will be eager to tie the player to a new contract, with his current deal expiring in less than 18 months. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will likely enter the market for an attacking reinforcement in the summer transfer window. That is because Karim Benzema has struggled with fitness issues this term. And with the Frenchman well into his thirties, Real Madrid must lay down a succession plan for him.

In addition, Marco Asensio and Eden Hazard face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu. While Asensio is in the final months of his contract, Hazard barely features for Los Blancos and might leave in the summer. So Real Madrid will have to invest in a top-class attacker in the coming months.

Rashford has thus emerged as a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. But Manchester United will unlikely listen to offers for the 27-goal attacker. In addition, the Red Devils are prioritising tying him to a new contract and are accelerating talks over a new deal.

The report suggests Rashford is leaning towards signing a new contract instead of leaving for a new adventure. That comes as a blow for Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can secure the English international’s long-term future.
