Manchester United are expected to trump Chelsea to the signature of Watford sensation Harry Amass.

According to the Evening Standard, Premier League giants Manchester United look set to beat arch-rivals Chelsea to the signature of Watford wonderkid Harry Amass in the 2023 summer transfer window.

The left-back made his senior debut for the Hornets earlier this year at the age of just 15 and is expected to have a bright future in the game. Now 16, the youngster is ready to move to newer pastures and continue his development.

Manchester United are just that club and have a pedigree of developing young talent. The likes of Marcus Rashford came through the system at Old Trafford. And under Erik ten Hag, that pathway could once again find new wind.

The Red Devils have been scouting the youngster for two years now and are well aware of his potential. They are currently in advanced talks for the teenager and look set to win the race for his signature.

Amass has already represented England at the youth level. He has also won silverware at the UEFA Development tournament last month, inculcating a winning temperament that would be welcome at the Theatre of Dreams.

The youngster has attracted attention from several other major clubs, including Chelsea. The Blues, under Todd Boehly, have been after promising players left and right and appear keen to put together a deep pool of talent.

While the likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez rightly grab the headlines, the arrivals of several other prospects have largely gone under the radar. The Blues have, in recent months, brought in Carney Chukwuemeka, Gabriel Slolina, and Andre Santos among others. The chances of Amass joining that list appear unlikely.

Manchester United are in the driving seat. And in ten Hag have the right person to develop the 16-year-old’s talents. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia currently make up the left-back roster at Old Trafford. But Amass is still some way away from making his senior bow and can afford to bide his time in the youth ranks.

For now, Amass is a hot prospect whose star is on the rise. He could very well develop into a first-division regular in the years to come. By landing him now, Manchester United could steal a lead over their rivals.
