Liverpool will have to pay £50 million in order to land 26-year-old midfielder Ruben Neves ahead of next season.
According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool are interested in signing Ruben Neves in the summer. The 26-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and the Merseyside club are keen on having him in their ranks.
Liverpool have been struggling in the ongoing season. They are currently fighting for a top-four finish in the English top flight. The Merseyside club were recently knocked out of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Real Madrid. And, they are not guaranteed to feature in the UCL next season.
One of the major reasons behind Liverpool’s struggle has been their midfield. Their midfielders have not been consistent enough, and Jurgen Klopp is keen on a complete midfield overhaul. The German tactician is desperate to sign a few world-class midfielders in the summer, and Neves is one of his priority targets.
The 26-year-old defensive midfielder was a part of FC Porto since his childhood days. He came up the ranks at the club before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2017.
The Portugal international helped them gain promotion to the Premier League and has been one of their most important players over the years. He has made over 200 appearances for the Wolves and 41 goal contributions to his name.
The 26-year-old has been performing on a consistent basis in the ongoing season despite the struggles of his team who are fighting for survival in the English top flight.
Meanwhile, Neves’s contract with the Wolves ends in the summer of 2024. The club is keen on extending his contract but they haven’t tasted success yet. Neves is not interested in extending his stay at Wolves, the Portugal international is looking for a new challenge at a bigger club.
With his contract set to expire in 15 months, Wolverhampton Wanderers are expected to let him leave in the summer even if they manage to survive relegation. According to the reports, they will sell him for £40-50 million if they fail to survive relegation. But, if they do manage to stay in the Premier League that price could go up to £50-60 million.
Liverpool are keen on having the Portuguese international in their ranks. But, they are aware of the fact that they might face competition from Barcelona and Manchester United. With Neves’s departure almost certain, it will be interesting to see where he ends up playing his football next season.
