Real Madrid and Luka Modric are reportedly negotiating a contract renewal amid interest from clubs from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Luka Modric might not be at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window. The multi-time Champions League winner is discussing a contract renewal with Los Blancos. But clubs from Qatar and Saudi Arabia are also keen on securing his services.

Luka Modric has created a lasting legacy since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur over a decade ago. Ironically branded the worst signing of the season by Spanish media midway through the 2012/13 season, he has come a long way. The veteran Croat is a multi-time Champions League winner. And he is arguably one of the best players ever for Real Madrid.

The 37-year-old has chipped in with 37 goals and 76 assists in nearly 500 appearances for Real Madrid. And despite being well into his thirties, the veteran midfielder is still going strong and is one of the best playmakers in the world. So it is hardly surprising that Real Madrid will prefer to keep him at the Bernabeu beyond the ongoing season.

Modric’s Croatia also finished third at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and he played a pivotal role in a memorable campaign. Meanwhile, he also remains a pivotal figure for Real Madrid this season. And the reigning La Liga champions are currently discussing a contract extension with him.

The Croatian international will see his contract expire in the summer transfer window. So it is easy to see why the Merengues are keen on keeping the multi-time Champions League winner at the Bernabeu. But Real Madrid will have to fend off interest from prospective suitors in the 37-year-old.

The veteran midfielder recently popped up on the radar of Serie A heavyweights Napoli. In addition, clubs from Qatar and Saudi Arabia are keen on signing him this coming summer. And Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Modric’s journey with Real Madrid might end in the coming months.
