Manchester United will battle Tottenham for French international defender Axel Disasi at the end of the season.

A report from Daily Mail claims that Manchester United held initial discussions with Axel Disasi regarding a summer move back in January. Apparently, a number of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, are keeping tabs on the 25-year-old French defender. And it remains to be seen where he ends up.

AS Monaco are prepared to sell the player for a substantial fee at the end of the season. And Manchester United will have to cough up £44 million to sign him. Disasi has been a key player for the French club this season, and he has the potential to develop into a superb option for Manchester United as well.

The Red Devils are looking to add more depth to their defence, especially. And players like Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are expected to move on at the end of the season. Both players have fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. And they will lead to leave to resurrect their careers and get back to playing regularly.

Disasi is only 25 and is likely to improve with coaching and experience. He certainly has the potential to justify the £44 million outlay in the coming seasons. Erik ten Hag is looking to put together a side capable of winning the Premier League title and challenging for the Champions league.

Improving the defence has to be a priority for the Red Devils. Manchester United have Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as the only reliable defenders at the club. And Disasi has emerged as a viable target for the Red Devils.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United can fend off the competition from the other Premier League clubs and secure his services in the coming months. The opportunity to join a big club like Manchester United is likely to be attempting proposition for the 25-year-old. And he will feel that a move to the Premier League will improve his chances of playing regularly for the French national team.

Tottenham are keen on signing the player as well. The Londoners need to bring a quality partner for Cristian Romero and the Frenchman would be a solid addition. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can finish in the top four and challenge Manchester United for his signature.
