Chelsea keen on signing Jan Oblak

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing veteran goalkeeper Jan Oblak from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

A report from Football Insider claims Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur could look to hijack the move for the Slovenian international Jan Oblak.

Chelsea might sell Edouard Mendy at the end of the season, and they will have to bring in a quality alternative. Mendy has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and he needs to leave in order to play regularly.

Oblak has been a key player for Atletico Madrid over the years. And he is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga and the world despite his dip in form this season. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can agree on a fee with the Spanish giants now.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to bring in a quality replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris, with Oblak among the targets. The 36-year-old has been a loyal servant for Tottenham over the years. But he has regressed significantly over the past year and he needs to be replaced soon.

The French veteran is no longer the player he used to be, and he looks like a shadow of his former self. The World Cup winner cannot hope to start for Tottenham regularly if the London club are hoping to challenge for major trophies.

Oblak would be an upgrade on the 36-year-old, and it will be interesting to see if Spurs can fend off competition from London rivals Chelsea and secure the services of the La Liga star. The opportunity to showcase his qualities in the Premier League is likely to be an attractive option for the Slovenian goalkeeper.

Oblak has proven himself in La Liga over the years, and he could look to pursue a new challenge now. The Premier League is one of the best competitions in the world, and he will be determined to prove his worth at a high level. The 30-year-old has a contract with Atletico Madrid until 2028. But it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants are ready to sell him for a reasonable price.
