Liverpool have been linked with the move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham for months now.

Jude Bellingham is reportedly a priority target for Liverpool. But the Reds might not be able to secure his signature because of their financial limitations. A report from The Athletic claims that Manchester City and Real Madrid are better placed to sign the 19-year-old England international at the end of the season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Bellingham. But Liverpool simply do not have the financial resources to compete with clubs like Manchester City or Real Madrid.

The Premier League side have put in a tremendous effort behind the scenes to convince the player’s camp and Bellingham himself. However, they might not be able to match Dortmund’s asking price. The 19-year-old does not have a release clause in his contract and is expected to cost around €150 million at the end of the season.

Furthermore, Liverpool are in real danger of missing out on Champions League qualification next season, which would be a devastating blow to their revenues. Furthermore, a player like Bellingham might not want to join a club without Champions League football.

On the other hand, Manchester City and Real Madrid are pretty much guaranteed to play in the premier European competition. And they have the finances to meet Dortmund’s asking price as well.

Real Madrid will have to bring in a top-class midfielder at the end of the season, especially with players like Luka Modric and Toni Kroos on their last legs. The Spanish giants have done very well to bring in players like Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde in recent seasons. The signing of Bellingham could sort out their midfield department for the foreseeable future.

The 19-year-old is a world-class talent who is destined to develop into a future superstar. He has all the attributes to play for a top club and will be hoping to join a club capable of challenging for major trophies. Real Madrid and Manchester City are proven winners in their respective leagues and the Spanish giants are undoubtedly the cream of Europe in the Champions league.

Both clubs are more attractive destinations compared to Liverpool. But it remains to be seen whether the Reds can match up to their rivals and put up a fight for the England midfielder at the end of the season.
