La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly rekindled their interest in 30-year-old Spanish international Alvaro Morata ahead of the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alvaro Morata is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on signing the 30-year-old Atletico Madrid striker again. And the veteran attacker might leave Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Alvaro Morata has endured a bizarre career thus far, representing different clubs multiple times. The Spanish international has played for several European bigwigs along the way. These include Real Madrid, Juventus, and Chelsea. And he is currently plying his trade for Atletico Madrid after returning from a loan stint with Juventus.

The 30-year-old has not been consistent this season as he has been in and out of the starting lineup. But a tally of 11 goals and two assists in under 2,000 minutes of game time is decent. However, Morata’s long-term Atletico Madrid future is uncertain, with Barcelona keen on signing him.

Barcelona will likely invest in a striker in the summer transfer window as Xavi Hernandez does not have a backup for Robert Lewandowski. And the Catalan giants have often struggled for goals when the Polish international has been unavailable. So it behoves Barcelona to delve into the market for a centre-forward.

Vitor Roque has emerged as the top target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. But with several top clubs keen on signing the Brazilian wonderkid, the Catalan giants need to keep their options open. Morata has thus popped up on Barcelona’s radar again.

The Blaugrana pursued the 30-year-old Spanish international in both transfer windows last year. But a move did not materialise, with Atletico Madrid unwilling to sell him to Barcelona. And they are set to launch the offensive for Morata in the coming months, considering he will be a viable backup for Lewandowski.

For now, Vitor Roque remains the top target, with the Brazilian prodigy keen on joining Barcelona. But it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants look to pursue Morata instead. The 30-year-old Spanish international will likely remain a contingency plan for Barcelona in the coming months.
