Harry Kane has reportedly been linked with a summer move away from Tottenham Hotspur, with Real Madrid interested in him.

A report from Defensa Central claims that Real Madrid are eyeing up a potential move for 29-year-old England international Harry Kane heading into the summer transfer window. But the Tottenham attacker is only Plan B for Los Blancos right now.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will be a free agent in June, and the French international has not signed an extension with the Spanish club yet. Real Madrid want him to sign a new contract with them. But if the Frenchman decides to move on, which is unlikely, they could look to bring in Kane as his replacement.

The 29-year-old is one of the best players in the world, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition. And even if Benzema does not leave, signing a striker will be imperative for Real Madrid amid the Frenchman’s fitness issues.

The Tottenham striker has 20 goals to his name across all competitions, and he is more than just a goalscorer. Benzema is one of the most complete forwards of his generation, and Real Madrid must look to bring in someone who will add play-making qualities to the side as well. Kane seems like the ideal fit to replace the French international if he decides to move on.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are going through a difficult period, and they could lose Antonio Conte at the end of the season. The report from Defensa Central claims that Kane could look to leave the club in the summer as well.

The Tottenham striker will feel that he is at the peak of his career and needs to join a club where he can win major trophies. Real Madrid are used to winning league titles and UEFA Champions League honours. And the opportunity to move to Santiago Bernabeu could prove to be hard to turn down.

Apparently, Real Madrid tried to sign the player back in 2017 and 2018 as well, but Kane chose to stay at Tottenham back then. The Tottenham attacker is now a contingency plan if Los Blancos fail to sign top targets Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

It remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants can convince him to move to Madrid in the coming months. The Tottenham striker has a contract until the summer of 2024, and he could be available for a reasonable price in the summer. But it will be interesting to see if Kane remains Plan B or becomes the top target.
