Newcastle United set to agree new deal with Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle United will soon agree on a new contract with Bruno Guimaraes before the end of the season to fend off potential suitors.

According to Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United hope to agree on a new contract with Bruno Guimaraes before the season finishes. Many suitors are waiting for an indication from the Magpies regarding the player. But the club would like the £100 million-rated Brazilian to stay for the longer term.

Bruno Guimaraes was a transformational signing, with many raising their eyebrows when he decided to join Newcastle United in January 2022. The Brazilian international barely took time to adjust to new surroundings and has since become one of their important players on the pitch.

Eddie Howe knows the midfielder’s importance, as Newcastle United have only lost one Premier League game when Guimaraes has played. While he has performed admirably since joining the club over a year ago, there are clubs ready to move for him if the Magpies are ready to sell.

Chelsea reportedly enquired in January, with Todd Boehly calling for the best talents worldwide. While Newcastle United swiftly rejected the idea of letting Guimaraes leave for a rival club, they also hope to agree on a new long-term deal.

Going by current market standards, Guimaraes is already a £100 million-rated player. But for the Magpies, it is not about the money right now with the midfielder. Howe is eager to build a solid foundation around the Brazilian and bring in more players to make Newcastle a competitive force.

Hence, a new contract for the midfielder seems imperative. And the Magpies could conclude the deal by the end of the season. Guimaraes has spoken positively about his time at the club and what he wants to achieve.

During the recent FWA North East Awards, he said, “My dream while I’m at Newcastle because I know what it would mean for the fans, is to win the Premier League title here.”

“That is my ambition with the club, plus to play in the Champions League. We need to dream big things because the club deserves it, and the fans deserve a title. Fans are growing up having never seen Newcastle become champions, and my goal, while I’m here, is to help the club win that title.”

The biggest worry for Newcastle United would be the apparent interest from Real Madrid, who could approach the midfielder. The Spanish giants are in the market for new midfielders. And if they fail in pursuit of Jude Bellingham, the Brazilian could become their next target.

Players rarely refuse the idea of playing for Real Madrid, which might well be the case with Guimaraes. With the new contract, he will likely achieve a substantial pay rise to become one of Newcastle’s highest-paid stars. Moreover, it also gives the club some much-needed security for at least a few years.

Nowadays, in football, a long-term deal may mean nothing, considering players and clubs rarely fulfil those agreements to their full potential. Hence, Newcastle United must tie Guimaraes down for the longer term, which lets them retain his value ahead of a possible move in the future.
